Apple iPhone XS Max Review

The bad Its battery life is the shortest of the three new iPhones and only incrementally better than last year’s. Despite its still-rich price tag, increased storage, USB-C fast chargers and headphone dongles will have you spending even more.

the IPhone XS MAX for my grand daughter who attends college and she is totally dependent on having the best phone for her school work. Both she and I were amazed at how easily she adapted to the IPhone XS. With little effort the phone set itself up with all the previous information container on her other phone. Voice command was so easy with a few repeated phases the phone recognized her voice and from there it guided her through the rest of the setup. The camera is great and takes the best pictures. She has only had the phone a few days but has told me several times how much she loves it.

The iPhone XS and XS Max, along with the iPhone XR, are Apple’s three new 2018 iPhones. But looking back on them now, in December, they have a lot more in common than you might think. Same new processors, same upgraded camera sensors and same image signal processors. Know that the  XS is no longer the starting point for any iPhone X shopper: it’s merely the slightly step-up model.

The bottom line While we’d still recommend the iPhone XR first, the XS has some extras worth noting.

Your face is your password.

Security made simple. Face ID reinvented the way we unlock, log in and pay. Some of our most sophisticated technologies — the TrueDepth camera system, the Secure Enclave and the Neural Engine — make it the most secure facial authentication ever in a smartphone. And even faster and easier to use.

Do more with a glance. Face ID does so much more than unlock your iPhone. So you can forget about typing usernames and passwords. Now all it takes is a look.

Say hello to a new era of photography.

Sensors, processors, algorithms, and you. An innovative dual-camera system integrates the ISP, the Neural Engine and advanced algorithms to unlock new creative possibilities and help you capture incredible photos.

A picture is worth a trillion operations. The iPhone XS dual‑camera system harnesses the unprecedented power of the Neural Engine and its ability to perform five trillion operations per second. Together with the Apple‑designed ISP, it works like the world’s fastest photographer’s assistant to help turn your pictures into showstoppers.

Apple iPhone XS Max Review

The iPhone XS Max is much bigger, and we note in our review it’s ideal for watching video and playing games. However, if you’ve got small hands, you may want to hold one before buying just to make sure. It’s also heavy at 208 grams, compared to the 177-gram iPhone XS.

The two XS phones look the same, with a glass body, an IP68 water-resistance rating, a metal chassis, a notch above the screen, and a dual-lens vertically mounted camera on the back. It’s only the size that separates them. The iPhone XR fits in the middle. It’s 194 grams, has an IP67 water-resistance rating, a colorful glass back, and slightly thicker bezels around the screen. The notch stays though. None of the phones have a headphone jack or a fingerprint sensor. Apple’s Face ID is used on all three.

the iPhone XS is design wise exactly same as the iPhone X. It uses same surgery-grade stainless steel, is as shiny as they come with mirror finish on the frame and back cover, has the same OLED screen, and uses the same vertically placed dual-camera module. If you keep the iPhone XS and the iPhone X together, you are going to find it difficult to tell them apart. The only new bit this year design wise is the new gold colour, which is slightly bronze. But it’s also not as bronze as it looks in images. This is a really subtle colour, which many people may even find a bit muddy or dull but those who find the current variants of gold colour phones too gaudy will appreciate.

The finish of the iPhone XS is top class. It shines like a jewel, but I feel that while last year when we first saw it in the iPhone X this design was a novelty, this year it looks a too familiar. The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max design looks too sophisticated, too polished for its own good. I would have preferred to see some change here, may be a bit of playfulness through a multi-coloured button or some changes in lines, even the lines around the camera module. The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are too familiar because we have seen and used the iPhone X for nearly a year now.
